Team LASU bounce back on their feet to defeat ABU (Zaria) at the semi final stage football competition.
It was indeed an interesting game between Lagos State University and Ahmadu Bello University (Zaria) at the semi final stage of the ongoing African Students Football Union.Abu (Zaria) opened the scoring as early as the 3rd minutes of the game from a free kick coming from the Left side of Team Lasu box 18. The tense of the game was so high as Team Lasu didn’t relent till they got a penalty. Durosimi Rafiu Adekunle, 200L Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Science played the penalty and scored but the referee disallow the goal because Lasu player entered the box 18 before the ball was kicked. Durosimi replayed the penalty and the Abu goalkeeper saved it to a corner kick. The morale was still alive, few minutes later, a lofted kick was played from Alli Ramadhan Akanbi 200L School of Agriculture,into Abu box 18 and Abu defender trying to head the ball back to the goalkeeper which resulted to an own goal which makes it 1-1at the end of half time.
The second half began with Team Lasu hoping to score another goal but few chances were missing in the attack. Abu defender keep pressuring Team Lasu defender with counter attack and long kick balls which Lasu players handled very well. Ten minutes to the end of the game, Team Lasu Player Mujeeb Babalola Olawale, 300L Department of Business Administration, Faculty of Management Science played a counter attack to Lasu Striker ,Durosimi and he dribibled two defenders and placed the ball to the right corner of the net to make it 2-1, also to make it his 5th goal in the competition. University of Development Studies (Ghana) won Kenyatta University (Kenya) 4-0 to book the final slot in the finals and a mouth watering game to watch against Team Lasu. Thus UDS (Ghana), are the defending champions of the just concluded West Africa University Games (WAUG). The venue of the final match, will take place at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba Ibadan by 12pm on Sunday while third place match is between Abu (Zaria) vs Kenyatta by 10am.
