Lagos State university management led by Prof. olanrewaju Fagbohun Administration received some high ranking officials of United States(US) Consulate Public officers , who are on a working visit to Nigeria’s Best state University, Friday 5th April, 2019.
The school management team and other officials of the university received the guest, Mr Russell Brooks who heads the Consulate and Mr. Clemsy Ayegbu’s an Alumnus of Lagos State University also the programme’s officer at the School of Transport building, main campus, Ojo, where the meeting was held.
Mr Ayegbu’s gives a little background about himself, covering his career and his work with the US Consulate. He highlighted some of the activities of the Consulate which includes exchange programmes, sponsorship of researches, investments in education and culture and processing of Visas amongst others.
However, LASU VC’s highlighted the limitations of the university in the area of having its own television and sought the possibility of the Consulate in helping to achieve the TV. He also mentioned the achievements of some students of the state university, which include the e-voting innovation and sought the consulate’s support for them.
The Alumnus furthered highlighted some opportunities the Consulate would render to the state university, which includes, Fulbright Foreign Student Programme : this gives opportunity for students doing their Ph.D. to interact with lectures from the US. He notes that 3 students from LASU are currently benefiting from this.
He furthered said the second is the Fulbright African Research Scholar Programmes. In this, beneficiaries are able to enjoy research grant and curriculum development grant.
Thirdly, Fulbright Specialist Programme: this programme will permit LASU to bring scholars from the US to LASU to meet staff and students in order to solve some identified problems. This is fully sponsored by the Consulate. It enables the university to identify a specific professor and bring to the university.
The opportunity also include, Fulbright Scholar in Residence programme allows nominated individuals to visit institutions in the US and Learn for a period of one year. Fulbright Scholar for Students Leaders helps selected students leaders to go over to the US and learn about the country and acquire better leadership skills and also Mandela Washington Fellowship for students who have demonstrated leadership and quality service. www.yali.state.gov is the website to visit for this particular opportunity.
